We hope that you are as excited about this opportunity to volunteer at UNC Hospitals as we are to have you here with us! Please read the information regarding this volunteer opportunity carefully prior to submitting your application.  There is a lot of important information that you need to be aware of before you make your final decision to become a volunteer.  Being a Junior Volunteer is a wonderful experience, but it requires committment, maturity and a drive to provide service to others!

 

*The 2009-2010 Academic Year program is full and we will no longer be accepting applications.  Please check back in the Spring for information on our Summer 2010 and Academic Year 2010-2011 programs.

Important Dates for Summer 2010 Volunteers:

Applications: Returning volunteer applications due March 2nd; New volunteer applications being accepted January 1 - March 13
Rolling Interviews: March 29th - April 30th
Orientation: June 10th (5pm - 7:30 pm)

Requirements

All of the following are requirements that apply to every High School Volunteer.  If you do not feel that you are able to meet each and every one of these requirements, please reconsider taking on this responsibility.

  • Graduated from 8th grade and at least 14 years of age
  • Available one day a week (Monday-Friday) to volunteer.    *very limited weekend volunteering opportunities
    • Academic year volunteers: Able to volunteer immediately after school until 6 pm
    • Summer volunteers: Able to volunteer between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm
  • Purchase a volunteer polo shirt for $10
  • Attend the orientation session
  • Turn in all required paperwork from orientation

Dress Code

  • Hospital ID's must be in plain view (above the waist)
  • All volunteers wear a UNCH polo which should be paired with khaki pants
  • No shorts or open-toed shoes are allowed on volunteer shifts
 

 

Attendance

  • Attendance is crucial to the success of the Junior Volunteer program!
  • Sign In: At Volunteer Services before reporting to your volunteer site
  • Sign Out: At the end of your shift
  • Applicants must be able to commit to volunteering once a week
  • Summer volunteers must be able to commit to volunteering on their scheduled day for at least 7 weeks during the summer session
