Recreational Therapy-Bone Marrow Transplants


 The recreational therapist for the N.C. Memorial Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant Unit provides treatment services for bone marrow transplant patients based upon physician's orders, individualized assessment and treatment plan. Emphasis is placed on the clinical benefits of physical activity/exercise in the preparation, transplant, and post-transplant phases of treatment. Other interventions used include:

  • relaxation training
  • coping skills
  • stress management
  • discharge planning to optimize successful return to the home environment
  • emotional self-regulation skills
