Our Department

UNC Pharmacy Department Mission Statement
The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral and critical part of patient care provided by the University of North Carolina Health Care System.  Our mission is to provide and promote comprehensive pharmaceutical care.  This commitment extends to our patients and community and encompasses service, teaching and research to optimize medication-related outcomes.

Employees
 The UNC Department of Pharmacy is an organization of more than 250 people who focus their attention on caring for patients of the UNC Healthcare System.  We are culturally diverse and have a variety of backgrounds, interests, capabilities and experience.

Janet Hadar is the Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President of the Pharmacy Department.  Rowell Daniels is the Director of Pharmacy.  The Department employs over 100 Pharmacists.

Practice Model
The Pharmacy Department has four major areas of operation which include Acute Care, Ambulatory Care, Financial Management & Business Services and Medication Policy & Research. 

The Department of Pharmacy has 2 retail pharmacies, a central inpatient pharmacy and several satellite pharmacies to include Pediatrics, Operating Room, Oncology and Investigational Drugs.

The Pharmacy Department has adopted the staff governance model. This model will ensure that staff members are instrumental in the development and implementation of ideas that will directly impact the department’s operations, practice, performance improvement, professional development, and finance.  In addition to the new governance model, the department has created a business plan with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and expanded the ambulatory care clinics.
